Typecon 2021
Poster
Fall 2020, Adobe Illustrator
The Brief:
The goal of this project was to make an unofficial poster for Typecon 2021, but when doing so, I had to emulate a historical graphic design style
Conceptualization:
I decided to go with the International Typographic Style for this project, as it was the one out of the options that I had that I was most drawn to at the time.
Execution:
I had examined the various posters that were created with the International Typographic Style, and I took note of the different design elements, visuals, and colors that were used, and took mental note of the patterns that I had recognized in order to help me properly emulate the style. I noticed that a common theme for the style was a black background, and very minimal secondary colors, which is how I came up with the black background and light blue for the poster. I had also used circles for the O and the zero in “Typecon 2021”, so I decided to make circles a consistent element in the poster by having a repetitive pattern with circles, masking the photos in circles, and if you look closely, the photos have a halftone texture over them, which also follows the circle theme.
