Des-tea-nations
Packaging
Spring 2021, Adobe Illustrator
The Brief:
For this project, I had to come up with a new, fake product, for an already existing tea company, and then I had to make packaging for that product. There was a theme that I had to keep in the concept, however, and it was the idea of “des-tea-nations”, which basically meant that it had to be themed around a non-American place in some way.
Conceptualization:
I decided to create a target audience of working millennials, and so I created a product that I thought would benefit them: an energy tea that not only gave you energy for the working day, but also provided nourishment.
Execution:
I researched ingredients that would give the benefits of added energy and nourishment, and I learned that green tea and berries did just that, so I decided to make the tea a berry flavored green tea (and I also added the other ingredients, L-theanine and vitamin B6, which provide the same benefits). I also had to do research on what countries grow berries, and that’s where I learned that there are berries that come from Spain, hence where “Spanish Berry Green Tea” comes from. In order to create the design and look of the can, I had to examine different energy drink brands, and what kind of trends are prevalent in their packaging. I came to realize that energy drink packaging often uses bright colors, but they also oftentimes use a black background with bright secondary colors. I decided to go this route and create a black background, with green and pink elements within the design.
